WHAT’S IT COST

OUR CABINS:

$75 U.S. per night for two ($65 - low season). $450 U.S. per week for two. ($390 - low season). No charge 7th night. Others in cabin $15 additional. No charge for children 5 years and under.

BED & BREAKFAST:

$60 U.S. double, $45 U.S. single, per night. Add 10% tourism (ATP) tax.

TRAVEL COSTS IN PANAMA CITY

TO/FROM AIRPORTS

Taxi operators maintain a monopoly on transport to and from airports. Their ‘asking price’ is $30 into Panama City from Tocumen International airport, although you can negotiate a better price if you are patient, better chance yet, if you speak some Spanish. White ‘co-operativo’ vans operate into the city as well, and are a better deal. The more on board, the better the price.

Take a photo, but stay off Panama’s archaic and infamous ‘Diablos Rojos’ (beat-up, painted-up, discarded old U.S. school buses) that move hapless souls around Panama City daily, and on some routes outside the city. A new, long-overdue modern transportation system is coming.

However, there is much better luck on the longer runs within the country, to David, Bocas delToro and to Costa Rica! New, comfortable, air-conditioned, bathroom and movie-equipped coaches run many trips daily from the main Albrook bus terminal.

Within  Panama, the companies ‘Padafront’ and ‘Termninales David’ operate. Travelling internationally to Costa Rica and beyond (as far as Guatemala City) both Tica Bus and Panaline depart Panama City daily. The ticket cost to David is $15 per person, less if you are retired here. There is no extra baggage charge. The fare from David to Boquete is $1.45.

TAXIS

Catching a cab in Panama City is not a problem. Flag one down as they go by. Panama City has a ‘zone fare’ system in place, but most drivers ignore it and charge what the market will bear. Thus be clear on your fare BEFORE you go. If you speak little Spanish, have someone at your hotel ask.
